Coach to Player – On Hydration During a Tournament

“Listen, staying hydrated isn’t just something nice to do — it’s essential if you want to play your best squash.
You’re going to be sweating a lot out there — even during warmups. If you wait until you’re thirsty, you’re already behind. Dehydration makes you slower, messes with your focus, and zaps your energy. That’s not what you want in a tight match, especially when it goes to five games.
So here’s what I want you to do: start drinking water early in the day. Not chugging — just small, steady sips every 15–20 minutes. And in between matches, don’t just sit and rest — drink. Throw in an electrolyte drink if it’s a long day or you’re sweating heavily. That helps replace what you’re losing.
Also, don’t wait for someone to remind you. Bring your own bottle, keep it near you, and make it part of your routine. Hydrated players make better decisions, recover faster, and keep their energy levels up all day.
You’ve trained hard for this — don’t let something simple like water be the reason you fade. Smart players fuel properly. That starts with hydration.”
