Why Changing Your Squash Grip Matters More Than You Think

In squash, every shot starts with your grip — and if your grip is worn out, your game probably is too.
Many junior players don’t realize how important it is to change the overgrip on their racket regularly. Over time, sweat, friction, and use wear down the grip, making it slippery, thin, and less responsive. That doesn’t just feel bad — it affects performance.
A fresh grip gives you better control, improved feel, and more confidence. When your racket feels secure in your hand, you can swing freely, hit with more precision, and react faster under pressure. A worn grip, on the other hand, can lead to tight hands, poor technique, and even blisters.
So how often should you change it? It depends how much you play. Juniors training multiple times a week should be replacing grips every 1–2 weeks — or even more often during summer or tournament weekends.
Think of it like changing shoes or restringing your racket. It’s basic maintenance for high performance.
A new grip is a small investment that pays off big — in comfort, confidence, and control.
Don’t wait until it’s falling apart.Change your grip, change your game.
