Weekend Wrap-up

A remarkable weekend saw our players competing across the east coast, with an awesome Rehearsal Tournament at Squash Tigers, a Gold in CT and a Silver in PA. It was also saw my daughters 13th birthday and me eating far too much cake - Happy Birthday Grace and back to the burpee - pullups for me…!

The William S. Broadbent Junior Gold was conducted this past weekend at three different venues in the wilds of Greenwich. Connecticut is producing much of the best junior squash in the USA at the moment and on projections pre-event, the draws looked well contested and deep.

The U11’s saw Mimi, Chloe and Evan in contrasting positions. Mimi went in as #1 seed and delivered, winning in fine style! Chloe, newer to Golds, did a great job and secured 9th and Evan did well and competed hard in his first exposure at this level. As the vanguard of our big U11 Squash Tigers contingent it was an awesome job, well done!

The U17’s saw Parth, Will and Adam also in contrasting positions. Parth won a strong 3rd place and enjoyed excellent rehearsal for next weekend's West Coast JCT. Will was exceptional, had a great run through the consolation and produced some epic matches. Adam, in his first Gold will have learned some good lessons and benefit from the step up in standard.

The U13 crew was highlighted by Madeleine continuing her good form of late and making through a quality draw to the semi-finals. Not to be outdone, Jonathan also made a great semi final run in what was an encouraging send off to the age group before his birthday next week. Bigger things ahead!

Edward was our BU15 starter and did not disappoint. 11/12th place in a CT Gold is no small feat, and he showed why he is regarded as one of the programs most improved players. Edward was one of the first players when Squash Tigers opened our doors and has raised his rating a shade under 0.6 since that day… very proud of the young man.

And finally a shout out to Tony and Yidrew who both walked away with 3rd place finishes in the (also catchily entitled) Agnes Irwin & Philadelphia Country Club Fall Junior Silver! Yidrew and Tony are improving dramatically all the time and it’s a nice reward for hard work - and as the coaches always say, it’s Tony’s world, we’re just living in it…

Next weekend we have the West Coast JCT and a bundle of Silvers all across the country. We’ll have two coaches in San Francisco, Zoom Coaching available for the Silvers and squads will run as scheduled - so no fear, wherever you’re playing, you’ll have the assistance you need, when you need it! Big week of training ahead, and definitely bigger things ahead!
