🐯 Hogmanay New Year’s Rehearsal Tournament | Exton, January 3

We kicked off the new year in the best possible way with our Hogmanay New Year’s Rehearsal Tournament, held today, January 3, at the Exton Club. With some players just returning from the holiday break and others clearly showing the benefits of a strong Winter Camp, the day offered a great snapshot of where everyone is as we head into the heart of the season.

Adding to the atmosphere, the British Junior Open was streaming on the big screen throughout the day. Between matches, players and families gathered to follow our Tigers competing overseas, keeping the connection strong even while part of the squad was away. Our Director Laurent was also absent, away on Team USA duties, and while he was missed on court, the group stepped up impressively in his absence.

What’s a Rehearsal Tournament?

For those new to the Squash Tigers pathway, a quick refresher. Rehearsal Tournaments are in-house events designed to give players the feel of real competition without the pressure of rankings or ratings. Players typically compete in three to four matches in a single day, gaining valuable match experience, learning to manage nerves, and developing the habits and mindset needed to succeed on the wider U.S. Squash circuit. They are competitive, supportive, and a key part of our long-term development model.

Premier Division

The Premier Division brought together a deep and competitive group. Neil finished on top after a composed and consistent day, with Rubens close behind following another solid performance. Jonny was, as ever, dependable and steady throughout the event, while Anthea competed with real effort and intensity from start to finish. Joyce, returning from the holiday break, settled in well and showed good rhythm as the day progressed, and Jaemyn continued to show improvement every time we see him, taking clear steps forward in his overall game. James also showed real effort throughout the event, competing hard in every match and setting a strong baseline as he works back into form.

Division 1

Division 1 delivered some of the most engaging squash of the day. Tanvi led the division, with Charlotte close behind after what was one of the standout matches of the event, a four game battle that showcased pace, shot quality, and competitive grit from both players. Anthony impressed with his skill level and creativity on court, while Ella, Chloe, and Vera competed wholeheartedly, chasing down every ball and staying committed in every rally. A very positive showing across the division.

Division 2

Division 2 was another highlight. Tara set the standard with a controlled and confident performance across the day. Valiqa and Riyanshi continued to show maturity and intent well beyond their years, playing with confidence and clarity. A special well done to Charan and Mark for making the trip over from New Jersey to compete, both picking up valuable match experience and contributing to a strong and competitive division. Ashley rounded out the group with a solid and committed showing.

Division 3

Division 3 featured many players competing in their very first squash event, and it was a pleasure to see how they embraced the experience. Khubaib, Vivaan, Shaurya, Shivaan, and Devansh all showed enthusiasm, effort, and a willingness to learn. A special thank you goes to Coach Sandeep, who guided the group through refereeing and marking responsibilities with patience, clarity, and encouragement. The sportsmanship on display throughout the division was excellent, and the large crowd gathered around the courts loved every moment of the Division 3 action. A further well done to our New Jersey travelers who made the journey and added to the buzz of the day.

Why These Events Matter

Rehearsal Tournaments play a vital role in our program. They provide meaningful match play for experienced competitors while offering a supportive and well structured entry point for newer players. Just as importantly, they help build routines, confidence, and competitive habits, all without the added pressure of sanctioned events.

Thank You

A big thank you to Coach Bob for his magnificent scheduling and organization. The day ran smoothly from start to finish, courts stayed on time, and the overall experience was seamless. As always, his behind the scenes work makes a huge difference.

What’s Next

As we turn the page on the holidays, normal training squads and regular hours resume from Monday, with everyone settling back into school routines and winter rhythm. Now is the time to rebook and remake individual lessons directly with your coach, as we are fully back on our normal schedule.

Competition ramps up quickly. We have a Bronze event in New Jersey on January 17, which can be entered directly through U.S. Squash, and is a perfect entry point for our beginner and developing players. That same weekend, we will have a full complement of coaches on site at the Philadelphia JCT. Please contact your coach directly to confirm coaching support for that event.

For those competing in Regional Gold events next weekend, Zoom coaching is available for preparation, match review, and tactical planning.

Training is back, competition is building, and support is in place. It's go time! Let’s go!
